Hoe and Worthing broke new ground on 22nd October when the first Combined Parishes Harvest Supper was held in our newly refurbished Hall.
50 people from the two Parishes sat down to an excellent hot supper of Shepherd’s Pie Dauphinoise, a wonderful range of sweets, cheese and biscuits, coffee and tea. All helped down with wine and beer.
It was a very happy occasion and, thanks to the heroines at the hatch, the Hall and new Kitchen coped easily with the serving of piping hot platefuls of delicious food to such a good number of people. Indeed it was generally agreed that more could have been accommodated.
As will be seen from the photographs, the Hall looked delightful with the tables laid out and this should encourage those considering using the Hall for similar events.
Prior to the supper, the traditional Harvest Festival Thanksgiving Service was held in St Andrew’s Church. The Service was led by the Rector, Sally Theakston and the sermon preached by the Vicar, Adrian Aubrey-Jones. It was very well attended and the old familiar Harvest hymns were enthusiastically sung.
Decorated for Harvest Festival, the church looked stunningly beautiful, as can be seen from the photos, and was widely admired, both at this service and at the 9.30 morning service the following Sunday.
Huge thanks go to the many volunteers, from both parishes, who performed wonders in so many areas to make this such a great success and for the generosity of those who provided everything and those who supported the event.
Plans are already afoot for next year.
